Invest in Scouting

Show your support by donating to the Mid-America Council, Boy Scouts of America. Your contribution can help the Council provide valuable programs which benefit each and every Scout.

Thank you for your interest in how the Boy Scouts of America, Mid-America Council funds its many programs, camps and leader training. There are four ways our youth programs are funded:

  • Annual Giving – Our “Investment in Character” Campaign
  • Endowment – Includes wills, estate planning, the James E. West fund
  • Capital Gifts – Support our camps and Scout Service Center
  • Gift-In-Kind – Donation of items or services

Investment in Character Campaign

Boy Scouts of America is building the leaders of tomorrow. And it wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of donors like you. Investment in Character donations make it possible for the Mid-America Council to provide youth with both what they get in and out of the Boy Scout program. So please… please become an Investor in Character. Donate today and start building the leaders of tomorrow, today.

Matching Gifts

Did you know there are companies that match dollar-for-dollar what their employees donate to charity? A number of these corporations also provide cash contributions for employees that spend time volunteering at a nonprofit. Donating Items

“Gifts-In-Kind” is great a win-win situation for you and the Scouting movement. Mid-America has a vast list of items that are needed for normal operation of the Scouting program. Items collected will allow us to continue to provide our quality values based program to over 20,800 youth in our community.

Our goal is to secure gifts of product: food for camp, office supplies, medical supplies, paper products, cups, etc. and in-kind services: printing, lawn mowing, carpet cleaning, window cleaning, etc.

The United Way

The Council receives financial support from various United Ways. Area United Way offices collaborate with community organizations, partner with businesses, team with service delivery organizations and join forces with dedicated leaders and volunteers. Together, the Boy Scouts and the United Way help solve community needs that affect families and children, assuring a community-wide services infrastructure.

James E. West Fellowship Award

The James E. West Fellowship Award is a national recognition for individuals who contribute $1,000 or more in cash or securities to their local council endowment fund. This contribution is in addition to and does not diminish or replace the donor’s annual gift to the Council’s Investment in Character Campaign. Organizations or individuals may contribute an award in honor of someone. The award is presented with a certificate, a lapel pin, and a square knot to wear on the uniform. James E. West fellows names are added to the wall in the Durham Scout Center.

Tribute Fund

The Boy Scouts of America, Mid-America Council has a Scout Tribute Fund you may send a contribution to, in any amount, to honor someone on a birthday, special occasion, anniversary or in memory of someone deceased. These gifts remain in perpetuity to ensure that Scouting is available for the youth of our future generations. Donations to the Scout Tribute Fund are tax deductible.  Contact the Mid-America Council Development Team for more information at 402.431.9BSA.

Heritage Program

Heritage is the title given to an original life-size sculpture by Western artist, Herb Mignery, which depicts a pioneer family. Commissioned by the trustees of the Boy Scouts of America, Mid-America Council, this statue is located in the Central Park Mall in downtown Omaha. At the base of the statue, there are bronze plaques affixed which honor individuals who are participants in the Mid-America Council Boy Scout Heritage Program. These leaders have given their support with a minimum donation of $100,000 through: outright gifts, bequests, gifts of insurance policies, trusts or annuities. Contact the Mid-America Council Development Team for more information at 402.431.9BSA.

Benefactor Program

Benefactors contribute between $5,000 and $99,999 to the Mid-America Council Boy Scout Endowment Fund either as an outright gift now or as a bequest in their will. Benefactors insure the continuation of quality Scouting Forever. A certificate and statuette is presented to each donor at an appropriate occasion.
